On Saturday, August 12, 2023, I attended a Hip Hop celebration at the famed ​Lincoln Theatre​ in Washington, DC, honoring the genre and the DMV pioneers that contributed to it becoming a worldwide phenomenon. Hosted by the non-profit organization ​Words, Beats & Life​, I and many others were treated to greatness, and it was FREE to all who attended!

Some of the performances included legends like ​DJ Kool​, ​Questionmark Asylum​, ​Nonchalant​, ​Oddisee​ and The 1978ers, ​Asheru​, Priest The Nomad, my mentor ​Substantial​, ​Uptown XO​, ​Gods’illa​, ​DJ RBI​, ​DJ 2-Tone Jones​, and many others.

People of all ages, races, and backgrounds came to witness history on one stage, because DMV LOVES HIP HOP! From Missy Elliott and Timbaland, Magoo (R.I.P.), The Neptunes and The Clipse, to Rico Nasty, Wale, and Logic, Hip Hop has been deeply ingrained in our musical DNA, and our brand of it has been making people dance the world over for decades. It was amazing to personally meet and chop it up with many of my childhood heroes, and it will surely be a night I won’t forget.
