On Friday, February 7, 2025 at 7PM EST, legendary wordsmith, Substantial, will be performing with his new band, The Sun’s Hues – featuring me on vocals, A.J. Rios on drums, Lizzie Blue on keys, Jonathan Smalls on bass, and the legendary DJ RBI on the 1s and 2s, This is going down at Crescendo Studios in Falls Church, VA.

This event will be hosted by Javier Starks, and will also include performances from DMV Breakers and live art created by Shani Shih. There will also be beat sets from The Sun’s Hues members, A.J. Rios and Lizzie Blue.

This show is dedicated to two groundbreaking Hip Hop producers who exited this world too soon – Nujabes and J Dilla – and who both shared birthdays on February 7th. What the two separately left with us in the form of their contributions should not ever be forgotten; Dilla changed the rhythm of Hip Hop with his loose swing and sampling techniques, and Nujabes pioneered a unique sound that led to the creations of the Lo-Fi and Chillhop genres.
