I know it’s been a week and a half since the instant classic that is Marcus D‘s Melancholy Hopeful dropped (Tuesday, June 12 was the official date), but a sister has been busy getting other personal issues out the way, you know helping other people with their projects, preparing to move into my own place soon, studying for tests at work, pushing to get shows and burn on internet radio stations, pressing up the official digipak copies of my album The SapphicSoul EP for you guys…stuff like that. I had to wait until I had substantial time to actually sit…so here I am, just sitting and giving this album its well-deserved props.
Although I am on the album – twice, which seems to be an interesting trend for me – I don’t believe I am speaking from a biased perspective when I say that this album is absolutely amazing in every aspect, from Marcus’ lush and fine-tuned production, to the mixing and mastering, and to the extremely talented group of guest artists Marcus brought together – Funky DL, Substantial, Shing02, Cise Star, and Choklate…just to name a few. If you love music, or Hip Hop, or both, Melancholy Hopeful will remain in your CD or MP3 player’s rotation for quite some time. If you don’t believe me, buy the album and see for yourself – I’ll be patiently waiting to say, “I told you so”.
For now, I’ll serenade you with the two tracks I’m on. If you don’t nod your head to these joints then you must have a neck injury that’s keeping you from doing just that. Enjoy the music on this beautiful Friday and throughout the weekend, and then buy this album! It’s a must-have for your collection!
