You’re outside and it’s the dead of winter. Every layer of clothing you own is on you. Your body aches from the deep chill. Your feet are blistered and bloody from exposure. Your skin is breaking because it’s so dry. You want to go somewhere to get warm, but no one will allow you into their space. What could be the reason? Maybe it’s because your hygiene repels other people away. Maybe it’s because all the clothes that you own are dirty and tattered. Maybe they don’t trust your mental stability. No matter the reason, all you can do is sit or stand where you are. You’re also hungry, but every person you ask for help ignores you. Some of them won’t even look you in the eyes. This is your struggle…every single day.

Maybe this isn’t you, but it could easily be any of us. “Another Day In Paradise”, originally covered by Phil Collins, captures this kind of reality. The rest of us act like this version of existence is not possible for them, but this song reminds us that this lonely, and also often, miserable life is closer than we may realize. it’s painful to hear, but it’s also important to be aware of this perspective, and that’s why I covered this song.
